On March 8th, the Wyandotte Academic Team competed at regionals, demonstrating their knowledge, teamwork, and dedication. The team included Captain Mylee Ferguson (freshman), Axel Holden (freshman), Weston Wieneke (Freshman), and Micah Young (6th grade).
Round 1: Wyandotte defeated Oklahoma Union 140-120.
Round 2 & 3: Bye rounds provided a chance to regroup.
Round 4: Wyandotte, the 6th seed, had a close match against #2 Colcord, falling 210-230.
Round 5: Facing #1 Caney Valley, Wyandotte was tied at halftime but finished 180-240.
With a 4th place finish, the team narrowly missed a state bid, ending their streak of back-to-back state appearances. The top three teams advancing to state are: #1 Colcord, #2 Caney Valley, and #3 Kansas.
Though the “threepeat” wasn’t meant to be, Mrs. Burns is incredibly proud of the team’s effort and sportsmanship. They represented Wyandotte with excellence.
Great season, team! The future looks bright! #WyandotteAcademicTeam #ProudCoach.
