🏀🏃♀️🏆Congratulations to the Coach of the Year!🏆🏃♀️🏀
The Wyandotte High School Coach of the Year for the 2023/2024 school year is Denisha Posey. Coach Posey began her career after graduating from Northeastern State University with a couple of stops at Tulsa Memorial, Chouteau-Mazie, and Foyil before taking the head girls basketball position here at Wyandotte. Along with her husband Aaron Posey (head track, assistant boys basketball, AP American history teacher) and their three children Landon, Ace, and Archer, this family has made their home here at Wyandotte with us. Denisha teaches elementary PE where she is most commonly known as “coach Pony” and middle school science in addition to her duties as the girls basketball coach. This year, the high school girls basketball team found themselves in the driver’s seat at the Area tournament before losing a couple of heartbreaking games to fall just short of the state tournament. Coach Posey was also named the Northeast Region Coach of the Year for the State of Oklahoma and is in the running for the overall Coach of the Year for the state of Oklahoma. Parents, patrons, students, and staff members have not been shy in their nominations for Coach Posey for Coach of the Year. Here’s some of the things those nominating had to say:
Coach Posey’s love for her job is undeniable. She is compassionate and understanding with everyone she encounters. I’ve watched her hug and love on elementary students who are having a rough day and then going to a basketball game and coaching those girls with her whole heart, encouraging them, teaching them and showing her support in every way possible.
Coach Posey is just an excellent down to Earth woman that radiates positivity and is always making sure her elementary kids are happy and having a positive experience in PE. She was my daughter’s MS basketball coach this year for the first year and we couldn’t have had a better first year basketball experience. She’s unbiased and makes sure that everyone gets play time and her patience and kindness is unmatched. We love Coach Pony!
A great attitude, approachable, makes the kids feel at ease and cared for.
Coach Poney is an amazing human all around. Not only does she love and strive for excellence with her students and athletes, she is an amazing co-worker. She is caring but also lets her students and athletes know that she believes in them both on the court and off.
What can I not say about Coach Posey!!She is positive, enthusiastic, supportive, trusting, focused, goal-oriented, knowledgeable, observant, respectful, patient and a clear communicator. In the elementary we absolutely adore her! She is so awesome with our students. She teaches them perseverance, teamwork and problem solving skills. I hear kids talking about how fun she is and they can't wait for P.E. day.
Then to see her accomplishments that happened with the girls basketball team this year is just phenomenal. The time she has dedicated to the sport is clear how much she loves it. I'm sure she has poured so much love, blood, sweat, and tears into her team.
Mrs. Posey she has a heart of gold for her team, I've never seen a coach so dedicated to a team like she is. Coach Posey is involved with her team like another family. Go Bears
She has always been encouraging and she isn’t just focused on her players, she truly cares about all the students at Wyandotte. She goes out of her way to check in on my middle daughter who graduated last year and didn’t even play for Coach Posey. She is someone that my youngest daughter can always go to when she needs advice or just a word of encouragement.
She gets to know her athletes on a personal level to help understand how to push them to do their best. She also cares about her athletes well-being just as much as winning or losing a game.
Denisha has positive relationships with her athletes and students. She is always pushing them to be better in every aspect of life. She has been a true asset to Wyandotte Public Schools Athletic Department. Denisha goes above and beyond to help all students be successful.
Mrs. Coach Posey is mostly known for her title of head girls basketball coach. Some may not know that she also coaches cross country and track, so she has a lot of duties when it comes to coaching. The boys cross country team that she assisted in coaching, qualified for the state meet this year for the first time ever, I believe. Her girls basketball team had an amazing 21-7 record along with District Champions, and Regional Champions. Wherever Mrs. Coach Posey is there is success.
Mrs. Coach Posey is the absolute best. She is universally respected and easily likable. She is a gifted strategist on the basketball court with the most perfect demeanor I've ever seen from a coach. She is professional, driven, and loves her girls. She is balanced and does an amazing job of flying above the personal squabbles, rivalries, and infighting that can sometimes plague those in her position. She doesn't play favorites, doesn't get in the mud, and has proven she can take a diverse group of personalities, get them to set their issues aside to achieve a common goal. Her players are better people for having had her in their life. If I had a daughter, she's exactly the role model I'd want in her life.
She demonstrates everything a Wyandotte Bear signifies.
Mrs. Coach Posey makes connections with her students. The kids absolutely love her in elementary all through high school. She goes out of her way to give a struggling student a high five or a word of encouragement. She is an asset to our school and community.
"Coach Pony" coaches "E.P." In the words of our Pre-K kiddos as well as many middle school and high school teams. She absolutely rocks every role she holds. Every kindergarten and Pre-K student LOVES their Coach Pony. The love and kindness she shows our kiddos goes beyond anything she is asked to have for our babies. They recognize how much she truly cares for them, which makes her that much more important to them. In her role of a MS/HS coach, she goes above and beyond for the girls. She loves, respects, and pushes the girls to be their best selves on the court and off the court. She also goes out of her way to build relationships with those that she teaches/coaches with. Denisha is a one of a kind coach and Wyandotte is lucky to have her.
Help us celebrate our Wyandotte High School Coach of the Year, Mrs. Denisha Posey!
