🏆👩🏫Congratulations to the 23-24 High School Teacher of the Year!👩🏫🏆
The Wyandotte High School Teacher of the Year for the 2023/2024 school year is Mrs. Hannah Young. Hannah is in her second year teaching at Wyandotte Public Schools. She came to us from West Nairobi School in Kenya in Africa. She is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in Chemistry and a Masters in Teaching. She teaches AP Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Physical Science, and is an integral part of the Leaford Bearskin Aviation Preparatory School here at Wyandotte. Hannah Young is a fantastic educator that teaches really difficult subject matter with great results. She inspires students daily to be their best and gets the absolute most out of them everyday they are in her class. Mrs. Young was nominated by her peers and some of the parents of her students and then voted in by the “of the year” committee as the high school teacher of the year. Here are some of the things that were said about her in those nominations:
The kids absolutely love and respect her teaching!!
Ms. Young is extraordinarily gifted in regard to her teaching. The students respect her knowledge and capabilities. She goes the extra mile to help struggling students. She manages her classroom with expertise. Her nurturing spirit contributes to the success of her students. She is remarkable.
Many of my students come directly from her class to mine. They often share their academic successes regarding her class. They enjoy her class very much and respect her abilities. It is obvious.
She’s been a very positive influence on our kids. She comes to school everyday with a smile on her face and is ready to face the day with any challenges in front of her.
She cares!! She knows the subject matter and makes the kids want to know more. She has a great connection with the kids!!
Hannah is an extraordinary teacher; she is greatly respected by her students. She is very knowledgeable and teaches multiple courses in her content area. She always has a smile on her face and contributes to our positive learning environment.
Hannah has that perfect mix of being just strict enough to teach discipline and consequences, mixed with a heart for taking students where they are and giving them the confidence to learn and grow.
Her room is always so organized and "alive", she teaches real science and makes it fun for the students.
Hannah is a genuinely great teacher. She makes great relationships with students, teaches difficult subject matter, and is constantly at games and events for her students.
Her greatest contribution is easy: rigor. Her students are exposed to a higher level of content than they'll experience anywhere else in the school. She's taken on AP Chemistry this year after fulfilling the requirements of that training. Students who take her upper level classes are more prepared for the next level than those who don't. It's that simple.
When she was teaching about blood and the circulatory systems, DNA, and things of this nature, she created an activity where the students had to figure out who the likely culprit was in a mock crime based on blood typing and things of that nature. Students who do these types of activities are more engaged than those who don't. She is special. For some, teaching is a career; for others, it's a calling. It's easy to see which category her skills and devotion fall under.
She is continuously growing in her craft through regular training and conferences. She applies these things to her curriculum with great follow-through. She has also grown to be an integral part of the staff that respects her greatly as a colleague. She has grown as a teacher who knows the power of relationships. Students look to see when she's at their activities. Her family has become a great little part of what it means to be a Bear.
At this time, we are proud to announce Hannah Young as the Wyandotte High School Teacher of the Year.
