2022/2023 Wyandotte Middle School Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Jeanie Siegrist

We would like to congratulate our 2022/2023 Middle School Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Jeanie Siegrist.  Mrs. Siegrist has been working for Wyandotte Public Schools since the 2008/2009 school year.  She spent 11 years as the Physical Education teacher in the elementary school before becoming certified in Career Tech through the Family and Consumer Sciences program.  She has served as the FACS teacher and sponsor for the last 5 years.  She leads the FCCLA (Famly, Career, and Community Leaders of America) program which is the accompanying club for FACS and her students regularly compete in state competitions with that organization.

Mrs. Siegrist teaches FACS at the 7th, 8th, and high school levels and also teaches Hospitality, Fashion Design, and this year came to us with a plan to teach an early childhood class that allows her students to earn a credential that helps them work in daycare centers and early childhood centers.

Mrs. Siegrist is a passionate educator and leads her classes and in some senses her whole hallway with her not-so-subtle enthusiasm.  She is well-known for “Siegrist-isms” which her past students could recite verbatim.  She was nominated by her peers, by parents, by past and present students, and as much for her role as a coach as for a teacher.

Mrs. Siegrist started the cross-country program at Wyandotte High School in 2013 and has seen great success.  She has had multiple teams win the conference and multiple students qualify for the state championship race.  Running and teaching running is a way of life for Coach Siegrist.  The most passionate advocates for Coach Siegrist are her former runners that have gone on to race at the collegiate level as well.

Read some of the things that her co-workers, students, past students, and student family members had to say about Coach Siegrist:

  • She always goes above and beyond to make her classes fun and creative for the students.

  • She uses her immense talent and creativity to make learning engaging and fun. You can tell she truly cares about her students.

  • She brings an infectious enthusiasm to everything she does, and this is evident in her teaching. Her students love her, and it's easy to see that she truly loves what she does. Her humor and creativity really unlock the material for her students.

  • She builds professional relationships and trust with her students which allows her to impact everyone in a deep and meaningful way.

  • Friendly, Fair, Firm, caring, I could go on and on.

  • Teaching kids skills that they will actually need in their daily life.

  • Passionate about her field of teaching as well as her kids.

  • Positive attitude, always checking the kids showing she cares about them.

  • She goes above & beyond not only for her students & team members, but for any Wyandotte student past & present!

  • She honestly gives her all in this school and takes on many responsibilities that she does very well in. She cares for the children like her own and never seems to disappoint any of them. Jeanie Siegrist is one heck of a teacher! ♥️

  • She is a very kind and caring person. She helps everyone who needs it and she is very outgoing.

  • Coach Siegrist is the best coach I have ever seen. Her passion for these kids is absolutely amazing. She doesn't just coach them in the sport but she makes sure that she is trying to make them the best person they can be. I have never seen a frown on her face. She is always smiling. She is a great person to be around. I'm very thankful for her and I hope she stays at Wyandotte for a long time!

  • It's her enthusiasm she has for the kids and the support she gives them.

  • We love Coach Siegrist for many reasons, but two outstanding things are: she will find a way and she is encouraging. If an athlete has a problem, whether a physical issue or a scheduling conflict or anything in between, she will help them figure it out. As far as being encouraging…don’t get me wrong. She is unafraid to tell an athlete to suck it up and keep running, but she’s also the first to cheer them on. More importantly, her encouragement extends to athletes of various sports and even to opposing teams.

For these reasons and many more, we congratulate Mrs. Jeanie Siegrist as the 22/23 Wyandotte Middle School Teacher of the Year!
